HDHomeRun Premium TV

HDHomeRun Premium TV Available Now

We’re very excited about the launch of the HDHomeRun Premium TV service that is finally here! In this article we tell you everything you need to know.

We are all about cord-cutting here at AntennaJunkies.com, which means we are savvy to find alternative means to watch great HDTV content for free in most cases. I’ve been a long-time fan of SiliconDust products (and no they don’t pay me to say that) and they just keep delivering and making them better!

Warning

Governments and ISPs across the world monitor their users’ online activities. If found streaming copyright content, you could get into serious legal trouble. Currently, your IP [ipt_address] is visible to everyone. I strongly recommend that you get the best VPN for streaming and hide your identity so that your entertainment doesn’t take a turn for the worst.

Here are the reasons why you must use a VPN all the time.

I personally use and recommend you use one of PureVPN, IPVanish or ExpressVPN. They are the fastest and most secure VPNs in the industry.

Full disclosure, the HDHomeRun Premium TV service is not a free service. Rather it is a fee for service platform delivered entirely over the Internet. Also, it does require you to have at least one of the following network tuners:

What separates this service from any other offered from cable or satellite is that it integrates seamlessly with your existing over-the-air HDTV antenna system. This means that it will integrate into your existing setup and DVR as well!

HDHomeRun Premium TV – What You’ll Need

As I eluded to at the start of this article, you are going to need one of the following tuner HDHomeRun network tuners to be able to enjoy this cool new service.

If you already have one of these tuners you’ll want to make sure that you have a recent firmware update. Visit my.HDHomeRun.com and make sure you see Version 20180817 or more recent.

Once you’ve updated to the latest firmware you should see the HDHomeRun Premium TV channels in your channel guide.

The nice thing about this is you can preview the channels in demo mode in 2 minute intervals. This way you can “try before you buy”! After you subscribe to their service, the 2 minute cap will be lifted.

If this is the first time you’re looking at these network tuners and you’re still on cable…there’s never been a better time to cut the cord than right now.

If you’re looking to free yourself from those inflated cable and satellite subscriptions and want to try free over-the-air HDTV then let me recommend some top performing antennas for you here as well.

Now depending on where you live and what you’re able to accommodate in terms of going with an indoor antenna versus outdoor antenna, I will recommend top performers in both categories.

I always recommend you go with an outdoor antenna whenever possible. Realizing that this isn’t always possible, here are the best-of-the-best in both categories.

HDHomeRun Premium TV – Top Performing Antennas

Recommended Indoor HDTV Antennas:

1. Mohu Curve 50 TV Antenna Amplified 50-Mile Range MH-110567

4K OTA Broadcasts - Mohu Curved Amplified Indoor HDTV AntennaThe Mohu Curved HDTV Antenna will allow you to access all HDTV channels and will be ready to receive 4K OTA Broadcasts in your area within a 50 mile range without the need for cable or satellite subscription. This list of channels should include local stations plus all the major network channels such as, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and Fox. This antenna is also backed by a 1 year limited warranty, so if there are any issues or you’re not satisfied with the performance, simply return it for a full refund.

2. ClearStream ECLIPSE Amplified TV Antenna

4K OTA Broadcasts - ClearStream ECLIPSE Amplified TV Antenna

The ClearStream Eclipse has one of the best performance ratings in its class and grips to your wall using its Sure Grip technology for easy installation (no screws or fasteners required). It also comes in multiple colors (black or white) so you can color coordinate the room you will be placing it in. The antenna is supplied with a 20dB In-Line Signal Amplifier, 15 ft. Coaxial Cable, 5 ft. USB Cable and USB Power Adapter.

3. Channel Master CM-4001HD FLATenna Ultra-thin Indoor TV Antenna

4K OTA Broadcasts - Channel Master CM-4001HD FLATenna Ultra-thin Indoor TV Antenna

As is the case with most Indoor HDTV Antennas, the ChannelMaster Flatenna will receive crystal clear HDTV signals from all directions and its non-intrusive design makes it a nice addition to a living room wall or window, and will be ready to receive 4K OTA Broadcasts at a range of 35 miles.

Recommended Outdoor HDTV Antennas:

Like I said above, when at all possible, in order to ensure you receive clear, crisp HDTV Antenna signals there is really no substitute to installing an outdoor antenna. Giving your antenna a clear, unobstructed view to the broadcast transmission towers in your area, free of walls, bricks and mortar, will pay huge dividends when it comes to the number of channels, picture quality and reliability you will receive.

Okay, so let’s list the top 3 antennas we’ve rate here on AntennaJunkies.com so you have a shortlist that is sure to satisfy any Outdoor Antenna installation need.

1. RCA Compact Outdoor Yagi HDTV Antenna

4K OTA Broadcasts - RCA Compact Outdoor Yagi HDTV Antenna with 70 Mile RangeI just love this little RCA Yagi Antenna. It continues to rank in the top spot on Amazon and any other reputable review site (including ours) on the internet today.

The reason this is such a great little antenna is that it will easily pull in all your local HDTV broadcasts within a 60-mile radius. It’s fold-out and compact design makes it a cinch to rooftop, chimney, attic or fascia mount. This little guy, that will not take up more than a few feet in any direction, will pull in all local and major network channels in your area such as, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and Fox.

2. 8 Element Bowtie Indoor/Outdoor HDTV Antenna – 70 Mile Range

4K OTA Broadcasts - Element Bowtie Indoor/Outdoor HDTV Antenna - 70 Mile RangeIf you need a little more range, then look no further than the 8 Element Bowtie Outdoor HDTV Antenna from Antennas Direct. I have a small little cottage that is 80+ miles from the nearest broadcast tower and this guy pulls those HDTV signals with ease and I can be rest assured that this antenna will be ready to receive 4K OTA Broadcasts.

I should add that this exceeds the 70 mile range advertised and I can only surmise that this is likely due to the fact that I’m on a lake (lakes generally are flat!!!) and slightly perched up on a point. In addition, I have it mounted atop a 30′ mast with no viewable obstructions.

3. ClearStream 4 Outdoor HDTV Antenna

4K OTA Broadcasts - ClearSream HDTV Antenna

Third on my list is the ClearStream 4 Outdoor HDTV Antenna by Antennas Direct. This is another solid choice if you need a little more range than the Yagi antenna listed above. This antenna just looks cool and is a solid performer capable of pulling in high quality HDTV signal from 70 miles out and of course will be ready to receive 4K OTA Broadcasts when they’re available.

This is in addition to the over-the-air HDTV you are already pulling in!

To stop your monthly service, simply navigate to your account at any time, and finish up your current month. If you change your mind and want to re-subscribe at a later date, it’s as easy as hitting the Re-subscribe button.

HDHomeRun Premium TV – How Many Channels Can You Watch?

HDHomeRun Premium TV allows you to watch up to 2 concurrent channels with a 2-tuner HDHomeRun model. This number increases to 4 concurrent HDHomeRun Premium TV channels with a 4-tuner model (or multiple 2-tuner HDHomeRun models).

If you noticed in the image above I’m actually running two HDHomeRun network tuners, therefore, I can stream concurrently to 4 different computers, laptops, or any other smart device in my house using not only my HDTV antennas but also the HDHomeRun Premium TV service. Awesome right!

Additionally, there is no restriction on viewing recorded HDHomeRun Premium TV content. You can record and store as much as your on-premise storage will allow. If you outgrow you current needs, simply expand your storage and/or your tuner count.

HDHomeRun Premium TV – What Devices Are Supported?

You can install the HDHomeRun App on virtually any smart device you can think of. The beauty is, the app is completely free and comes with a built-in guide, not only for the HDHomeRun Premium TV channels but also for the HDTV antenna channels as well!

Of course, you are not tied to using just their app either. There are other third-party apps that have support for HDHomeRun Network Tuners such as PLEX and Google Live Channels. This is not an exhaustive list either. See the image below for the full list of third-party apps that support these network tuners.
